“Rain, rain go away, Come again another day!” Something I’ve heard in every single place I’ve lived and visited is, “If you don’t like the weather, wait an hour and it will change.” That proverb was absolutely true at our Scout Expo here at the KMC in Germany. After experiencing beautiful, sunny Spring weather in the KMC, our event happened to fall on one of the dreariest and coldest days we have had in recent weeks.
The kids and adult leaders were all real “troopers.” They arrived at 8 am on a Saturday morning and despite the cold, these troops still set up their tables and displays with excitement for a great day. The kids were all smiles as they greeted and spoke with potential new recruits for their troops. There was a pinewood derby demonstration, a knot tying demonstration, and a few games! All of the branches of scouting were represented: girl scouts, boy scouts, and even venture crews!
I met with a number of really amazing people – kids and leaders- at the Scout Expo. The representation of top quality young adults and their leaders was impressive. Everyone embodied the spirit of the Scout Law, acting courteously, helping one another, and developing relationships with others. These representatives embraced the rain and the cold for the sake of their troops, and I was honored to meet them and be a part of something that demonstrated so much pride in being a Scout. Anyone trying to decide on a specific troop to join should know that all of our troops in the KMC area are excellent choices and will provide an opportunity to experience excellence in scouting.
